Mary Nichols, Author of Historical Romance

Dear Reader

Welcome to my web site. I write saga/mainstream novels for Allison and Busby and historical romance for Harlequin, Mills & Boon.

Of my sagas published by Allison & Busby, THE SUMMER HOUSE .(2009), reached the long list for the RNA's Romantic Novel of the Year Award and was, for a time, top of the Amazon rankings for Sagas and 198 in all their books. THE FOUNTAIN is set between the two world wars.  THE KIRILOV STAR is set partly in Russia and partly in England, spanning a time from 1920 to 1960.  A fourth, THE GIRL ON THE BEACH, is set in England during the Second World War.  This will be out in hardback in February 2012. They are also available as ebooks. The links are to be found on the appropriate pages of this website.

The Mills & Boon books are very different.  Their backgrounds range in time from the Civil War and Jacobite Rebellion, through Georgian and Regency times to the coming of the railways and the outcry for and against building the Crystal Palace in Victoria's reign. The settings are the background to the trials and tribulations of the hero and heroine and I enjoy fitting the two together and bringing the story to the happy ending everyone looks for.

NEW

I have recently put my toe in the water of e-book publishing myself by updating The Stubble Field which has long been out of print and renaming it A Line Through Chevington. Orphaned brother and sister, Sarah Jane and Billie Winterday are forced to go to the dreaded workhouse where they are separated. From then on their lives follow completely different courses, although every now and again, they are within a whisker of being reunited. Originally I wrote the book through both their points of view but it became impossibly long and so I decided to concentrate on Sarah Jane’s story, writing Billie’s as a sequel. The Stubble Field was published by Orion but by the time I had prepared the sequel, the publisher’s policy had changed and it never made it into print.  So many people have asked me ‘But what happened to Billie?’ that the opportunity to e-publish on my own account was heaven-sent. It is now available as PROMISES AND PIE CRUSTS. And for those who have not read The Stubble Field, may I point you in the direction of A LINE THROUH CHEVINGTON?
